Let's Give the Reaper a Hard Time

May 14, 20261 min read

Over the past few years, I have heard a lot of older men tell me things like “I used to run” or “my knees won’t let me…” etc. I get it, believe me, I get it. There is no day that something isn’t hurting me. I often feel like that old Police song, “King of Pain,” on an endless loop.

It’s less that you’re old and more that somewhere along the way you stopped showing up for yourself. It’s like that corny t-shirt that says, “You did not stop running because you got old, you got old because you stopped running.” There’s a lot of wisdom in some of these t-shirts.

I set up “old1ron.com” for you and me. Let’s get out, let’s move. Let’s use the time we have left to be mobile, to be stronger, to be free. It doesn’t matter what you love to do- hiking, walking, pickleball, running, jumping out of airplanes, surfing- go do it as often as you can and keep getting out there.

There is nothing better than being in good health with the ability to do whatever you want. Yes, we are aging, but we are GenX, and we are still feral. Let’s channel that. Let’s give the Reaper a hard time; that is such a GenX thing to want, isn’t it?

For me, we are a little over two months from the Spartan Sprint in Asheville. The work is happening every day.

Still moving. Still exploring. Still drinking from the garden hose.
